Recently Nikos Economopoulos , with his usual frankness, gave an interview to MEGA TV. The conversation took place in the dressing room of the nightclub "Thea ", where the star is appearing every year, since his victory in the 'DREAM SHOW-2". Nikos even jokingly called "THEA" - "my home".


There is a large number of icons in the room. Nikos explains it with the fact that he really believes in God and that everything good happenning to him is due to the divine will.



The singer was speaking about his good feeling in regards of his collaboration with Nino and Paola. He feels very good about their professionalism and thinks, that their relationship is very friendly. At the same time Nikos mentioned, that he is not easy in obtaining real friends. He is very satisfied that there is no jealousy in their team and that he, personally, never feels any jealousy to people’s good qualities. He is happy that, thanks God, so far he was always sharing the stage with really good artists.


Being asked about the reasons of the success of his triple platinum album "Doro Gia Sena", Nikos said that it is an achievement of his audience.



Referring to television, the singer spoke very critically and admitted that he does not like to watch TV, because "they show all sorts of rubbish.” “But - he said - people are not fools!”


And answering to the question if he could earlier imagine how big success this CD would be, Nikos said that he hoped so, that he was working for that and that’s what all these beautiful songs were written for.

Νίκος Οικονομόπουλος: Ένα Δώρο Για Σας

Το CD του Νίκου Οικονομόπουλου με τίτλο "Δώρο για Σένα" έχει μπει στον δεύτερο γύρο πωλήσεων. Το τρεις φορές πλατινένιο άλμπουμ αυτή τη στιγμή παρουσιάζεται με ένα πολύχρωμο και ενημερωτικό φυλλάδιο. Αυτή η πολυτελής και όμορφα συσκευασμένη έκδοση υπάρχει σε προσιτή τιμή σε καταστήματα σε όλη την Ελλάδα. Αυτό το άλμπουμ σε συνδυασμό με μια καλά οργανωμένη διαφημιστική εκστρατεία, έχει γίνει μια τεράστια επιτυχία - κάνοντας το τριπλά πλατινένιο μέσα σε πέντε μήνες από την αρχική κυκλοφορία του.

Ας κοιτάξουμε μέσα στο ένθετο για να δούμε τι κρύβεται πίσω από το εξώφυλλό με το ακτινοβόλο χαμόγελο του Νίκου.

Το πρώτο πράγμα που εντυπωσιάζει είναι οι όμορφες φωτογραφίες απο τον Ιάκωβο Καλαϊτζάκη, την Ιωάννα Tζετζούμη και τον Παπαδάκη Press, αυτή η εκλεκτική επιλογή μας εκπλήσσει. Μπορούμε να δούμε εδώ κάποια εναλλαγή εικόνων του Νίκου του Πρίγκιπα, του Φιλόσοφου και του Πλανόδιου μουσικού, αλλά τα πράγματα γίνονται σαφέστερα καθώς διαβάζουμε το έντυπο.

Η πρώτη σελίδα είναι αφιερωμένη στον Νίκο Οικονομόπουλο ο οποίος έχει γράψει μια ανοιχτή επιστολή για όλους τους θαυμαστές του. Σε αυτήν αποκαλύπτει: " Ήμουν μόλις 6 ετών, όταν αποφάσισα ότι αυτό που ήθελα να υπηρετήσω για πάντα είναι το τραγούδι". Από την άλλη αναφέρεται στην πρώτη φιλοδοξία της ζωής του ως «ένα οξύμωρο», το παιδικό όνειρο του Νίκου τελικά πραγματοποιήθηκε μέσα από ένα μακροχρόνιο ταξίδι το οποίο δεν έχει ολοκληρωθεί ακόμα. Ωστόσο, δεν επαναπαύεται στις δάφνες του και συνεχίζει να επιμένει με μεγάλη θέρμη, η οποία ενισχύεται από την αγάπη και την υποστήριξη των αγαπημένων θαυμαστών του και ο ίδιος έχει υποσχεθεί να τους δώσει ακόμη περισσότερα στο μέλλον.

Μετά από αυτή την εισαγωγή, περνάμε στην βιογραφία του Νίκου, η οποία περιγράφεται από την Μαίρη Αυγερινοπούλου.

Γραμμένη σε επικό ύφος και συνδυασμένη με αποσπάσματα από τον Νίκο, αυτή η συναρπαστική ιστορία αιχμαλωτίζει τον αναγνώστη. Ας ρίξουμε μια ματιά στις εικόνες απο την παιδική ηλικία του τραγουδιστή, την οποία πέρασε στη γενέτειρά του Κάτω Αχαϊα, όπως ο Νίκος θυμάται: «Θυμάμαι τον παππού μου να με περιμένει κάτω από τη λεμονιά, εγώ να βγαίνω στη βεράντα και με ένα νεύμα του να μου ζητά να κατέβω στο κάτω σπίτι. Εκεί, δίπλα του, μεγάλωσα. Και ήταν αυτός που με πρωτο-άκουσε να του τραγουδάω δικά μου αυτοσχέδια τραγούδια".

Διαβάζουμε για τα εφηβικά του χρόνια και για το πώς έπρεπε να δουλέψει σκληρά βοηθώντας την οικογένειά του στο ψαράδικό τους. Μ' αυτόν τον τρόπο έγινε πιο δυνατός αντικρίζοντας την πραγματικότητα της ζωής και αυτό τον βοήθησε να μη γίνει ένα "κακομαθημένο παιδί." Έπειτα αναφέρονται τα διάφορα τυχερά "ατυχήματα" και γεγονότα που στιγμάτισαν και σχεδίασαν τη μελλοντική σταδιοδρομία του Νίκου.

Θα τον ακολουθήσουμε στη διαδρομή του ως τραγουδιστή, που ξεκίνησε στην ηλικία των 17 και στην οποία περιλαμβάνονται σημαντικά ταξίδια για εμφανίσεις στην Πελοπόννησο, καθώς και στη Βόρεια Ελλάδα και τη Θράκη. Στην Κομοτινή εδραιώθηκαν μάλιστα και οι καλύτερες φιλίες της ζωής του: "Οι φίλοι μου μου έλεγαν να δηλώσω συμμετοχή και σε άλλα παιχνίδια, να στείλω demo σε εταιρείες, δεν το έκανα όμως. Ήθελα τα πράγματα να έρθουν μόνα τους, στο χρόνο τους, κι έτσι έγινε".

Μαθαίνουμε για τη νίκη του στο διαγωνισμό ταλέντων Dream Show 2 και για την επακόλουθη επιτυχή συνεργασία του με τον Θανάση Παπαγεωργίου, ο οποίος με τη σειρά του έγινε παραγωγός του Νίκου και ο επενδυτής ο οποίος χρηματοδότησε το συνημμένο ένθετο αυτού του CD.

Έχουμε εντυπωσιαστεί από τα ονόματα αρκετών διακεκριμένων καλλιτεχνών του ελληνικού λαϊκού τραγουδιού με τα οποία ο νεαρός τραγουδιστής συνεργάστηκε και ήρθε πιο κοντά: "Ο Γιάννης Πάριος είναι για μένα ο μεγαλύτερος εν ζωή τραγουδιστής και είναι τεράστια η χαρά και η τιμή που συνεργάστηκα μαζί του και που είμαστε φίλοι. Όπως χαίρομαι και για τη συνεργασία μου με τον Σταμάτη Γονίδη, καθώς και με άλλους καλλιτέχνες που έχουμε βρεθεί στον ίδιο χώρο. Από όλους πήρα κάτι".
Αντιλαμβανόμαστε από αυτό το απόσπασμα, ότι ο Νίκος αποδίδει την επιτυχία του στη δουλειά του, την ηθική του και την αποφασιστικότητα του: "Ειλικρινά, δεν πιστεύω στην τύχη. Πάντα βάδιζα -και βαδίζω- έχοντας στόχους στη ζωή μου. Πιστεύω στην ισχυρή θέληση και στη σκληρή δουλειά. Όταν κάτι το θέλεις πολύ και το αγαπάς, θα το πετύχεις, όσο χρόνο κι αν σου πάρει. Θα κουραστείς, αλλά αν είσαι αποφασισμένος, θα το κερδίσεις το στοίχημα".
Και πάνω απ 'όλα -αυτό πάντα φαίνεται πιο ενδιαφέρον- ανακαλύπτουμε κάτι για την προσωπική ζωή του Νίκου: "Η μοναξιά είναι δική μου επιλογή. Θέλω το χρόνο μου για να μπορώ να επαναπροσδιορίζομαι. Κάθε βράδυ κάνω τον απολογισμό της ημέρας και θέλω η μέρα μου να μη φεύγει χαμένη. Είναι κρίμα να μην αξιοποιείς το χρόνο σου. Και αν κάποιες ημέρες τις χαλαλίζω χωρίς να κάνω απολύτως τίποτα, είναι γιατί πραγματικά το έχω ανάγκη για να ξεκουραστώ. Όπως έχω μεγάλη ανάγκη τη συνομιλία μου με το Θεό. Μπορεί να ακουστεί παράξενο, όμως Του μιλάω και όταν κάτι το θέλω πολύ, του το ζητάω και Εκείνος με τον τρόπο του, πάντα μου απαντά".

Η ιστορία του Νίκου Οικονομόπουλου έχει στοιχεία που μας θυμίζουν ένα κλασικό παραμύθι: η αρχετυπική ιστορία είναι αυτή της σκληρά εργαζόμενης «Σταχτοπούτας» που βρίσκει συμπτωματικά καλή τύχη και επιτυγχάνει μια νέα, ευτυχισμένη ζωή. Με κάθε νέο καλλιτέχνη που αντιπροσωπεύεται από αυτό το "παραμύθι", γίνεται συχνά μια διασκευή του έτσι ώστε να ταιριάζει με τα γεγονότα. Φαίνεται ότι αυτά που διαβάζουμε σε αυτό το ένθετο του CD είναι συνδεδεμένο με αυτό το γνώριμο παραμύθι, αλλά με κάπως διαφορετικό τρόπο.

Προτείνω να προσπαθήσουμε να ερμηνεύσουμε εάν η προσήλωση του Νίκου στο πεπρωμένο του τον έχει οδηγήσει στην επιτυχία του μέχρι σήμερα ή εάν η τύχη έχει παίξει σπουδαιότερο ρόλο.

Ο ίδιος ο Νίκος ισχυρίζεται, ότι ακόμη και στην τρυφερή ηλικία των 6, το όνειρό του να γίνει τραγουδιστής, δεν ήταν απλώς μια αφελής "ιδιοτροπία του παιδιού", αλλά μάλλον μια βαθιά φυλαγμένη πεποίθηση. Δεν πρέπει κανείς να εκπλήσσεται από το εξής: όταν πρόκειται για μεγάλο ταλέντο, είναι πολύ πιο εκπληκτικό εάν αυτό το δώρο ξυπνήσει αργότερα και αρχίσει να αναδύεται στην εφηβεία. Στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις, όλοι οι μεγάλοι μουσικοί είναι ήδη ενήμεροι για την επιβάρυνση που θα μεταφέρουν από την παιδική ηλικία. Αυτή η θεία σπίθα αρχίζει να καίει μέσα τους, σχεδόν από τη γέννησή τους, και ένας ταλαντούχος άνθρωπος στιγματίζεται από αυτήν. Αυτή η σπίθα επιζητεί να ανάψει τη φωτιά, έτσι, αυτό το παράδοξο είναι μια ακόμη απόδειξη των εξαιρετικών μουσικών ταλέντων του Νίκου Οικονομόπουλου.

Τώρα, λίγα λόγια σχετικά με το ποδόσφαιρο. Δεν είναι μυστικό ότι πολλοί μεγάλοι τραγουδιστές έχουν ασχοληθεί σοβαρά με αυτό το άθλημα. Οι διάσημοι Τρεις Τενόροι, όχι μόνο τραγούδησαν σε γήπεδα, αλλά και οι ίδιοι ήταν εξαιρετικοί ποδοσφαιριστές. Ο Luciano Pavarotti ήταν σπουδαίος, όπως και ο Νίκος, αλλά διαλύθηκαν οι ελπίδες του για την ποδοσφαιρική ομάδα της γενέτειράς του. Τίποτα όμως δεν περνά χωρίς να αφήσει ίχνη. Το ποδόσφαιρο καλλιέργησε σε όλους αυτούς τους τραγουδιστές κάποιες ανεκτίμητες αρετές όπως το θάρρος, την αντοχή και το σθένος, και, όπως θα δούμε στη συνέχεια, κάθε μία από αυτές τις αρετές ήταν καθοριστική για τη μελλοντική σταδιοδρομία του Νίκου Οικονομόπουλου.

Ο Νίκος έμαθε να πειθαρχεί από την εφηβεία του ακόμη,όταν έπρεπε να εργάζεται από την ανατολή μέχρι τη δύση του ήλιου και αυτή η αγώγη έμελλε να τον εξυπηρετήσει καλά.Πράγματι,ως αποτέλεσμα των εν λόγω συνθηκών εργασίας ο Νίκος είναι σε θέση να αντέξει ώρες φόρτισης εξαιτιάς αυτής της ικανότητας να είναι μονίμως σε άριστη κατάσταση,σαν μαγνήτης, συνεχώς προσελκούσε μεγάλα πλήθη στο κέντρο που εμφανιζόταν στο ''FIX'' στην Αθήνα, όταν εργάστηκε για 5 μήνες τη χειμερινή περίοδο 2010-11 κατά τη πιο δύσκολη περίοδο οικονόμικης κρίσης στην Ελλάδα.

Η παρουσία του Οικονομόπουλου το 2006 στο Dream Show 2 αποδείχτηκε τόσο ένα καλλιτεχνικό επίτευγμα αλλα και μια προσωπική πρόκληση. Ο ευγενικός και γλυκομίλητος τρόπος του Νίκου σε συνδιασμό με τη μέτρια και επιφυλακτική φύση του αποδείχτηκε σε αντίθεση με τισ πτυχές τις τηλεοπτικής πραγματικότητας του Dream Show. Ωστόσο, ενώ η είσοδος φάνηκε να είναι προσωπικά δυσάρεστη για τον Νίκο, εκείνος παρόλα αυτά συνέχισε δυναμικά για τον σκοπό που ήταν εκεί, τη πρώτη θέση, για να αφήσει το σημάδι του και να δώσει τη δική του ατομική σφραγίδα στο ελληνικό λαικό τραγούδι.

Όσον αφορά την νίκη σε αυτόν το διαγωνίσμο τραγουδιού μπορούμε επίσης να βρούμε μερικές λεπτομέριες που παραλείπονται σε πολλά θέματα σχετικά με αυτό το σημαντικό γεγονός στη βιογραφία του Νίκου. Η καταπληκτική φωνή και η ελκυστική ασυνήθιστη εμφάνιση ήταν φυσικά οι πιο φανεροί παράγοντες εκεί.

Αλλά όχι λιγότερο σημαντικό είναι ένα άλλο στοιχείο: η ικανότητά του να εκτελεί μπροστά σε κόσμο και σε κριτική επιτροπή χωρίς να χάνει σε τίποτα. Δεν θέλω να επαναλαμβάνομαι αλλά να αναφέρω ξανά την γενναιότητα του Νίκου και τον δυνατό του χαρακτήρα. Δεν χρειάζεται κάποιος να είναι ειδικός για να συμπεράνει , αφου πρακολουθήσει και ακούσει τις ζωντανές του εμφανίσεις στο Dream Show 2, οτι αυτή είναι δουλειά ενός έμπειρου επαγγελματία. Το βραδινό όνειρο που είχε ο Νίκος πρωτού κάνει την αίτηση για το show, εμφανίστηκε σ΄αυτόν τυχαία. Εκείνη τη στιγμή υποσεινήδητα ο Νίκος Οικονομόπουλος έκρινε οτι λόγω των πολλών ετών που τραγουδά , είχε φτάσει στο επίπεδο που θα του εγγυόταν τη νίκη. Η φωνή κάποιου και ο χαρακτήρας του, δεν είναι αρκετά για να δώσουν την εγγύηση αλλά επίσης χρειάζεται να υπάρχει ένας υψηλός βαθμός επαγγελματισμού. Άνθρωποι από τα κέντρα διασκέδασης που εμφανιζόταν ο Νίκος πριν τον διαγωνισμό μπορούν να το επιβεβαιώσουν - ήταν ήση ένας εξαιρετικός εκτελεστής και λατρευόταν από κοινό . Αυτός στρατηγικά διάλεξε την κατάλληλη στιγμή και μπήκε στο σωστό μέρος. Ήρθε από την επαρχεία στην Αθήνα και κατέκτησε την Αθήνα.

Η νίκη σ' αυτον τον διαγωνισμο , επέφερε στο Νίκο Οικονομόπουλο επάξια αναγνωρισημότητα, ένα αξιοπρεπές ποσό χρημάτων, ενα συμβόλαιο με δισκογραφική εταιρεία και την υποστήριξη του Θανάση Παπαγεωργίου. Καθόλου άσχημα, θα μπορούσε να πει κανείς, αλλά ας δούμε τι έχει δώσει ο Νίκος στην ελληνική μουσική σκηνή.



Η είσοδος του Νίκου στο ελληνικό μουσικό στερέωμα έφτασε ακριβώς την κατάλληλη χρονικά στιγμή για την πατρίδα του, φέρνοντας νέο αίμα σε ένα είδος μουσικής που τιμάτε διαχρονικά και επι προσθέτως βοηθώντας τον ταραγμένο λαό να ξεχάσει τα προβλήματά του για λίγο και να του δώσει αισιοδοξία κατά τη διάρκεια της πιο αβέβαιης εποχής. Ο Οικονομόπουλος επέλεξε να αναμίξει το παλιό με το νέο - την παράδοση του ελληνικού λαϊκού τραγουδιού που θα είναι σεβαστή καθ' ολη τη διάρκεια του χρόνου, αλλά εμποτισμένη με μια ζωτικότητα που απορρέει η μοναδική προσωπικότητα του Νίκου και το χαρισματικό στυλ εμφανίσεων. Για το σκοπό αυτό, έπλασε ένα αισιόδοξο και ευχάριστο μήνυμα, «Το τραγούδι είναι το καλύτερο αντίδοτο στην κρίση»

O Νίκος έχει τη δική του τέλεια διαίσθηση της μουσικής και δεν πιστεύει στο να αντιγράφει άλλους ή στο να εισάγει την αγγλική γλώσσα στα τραγούδια του κι αυτό επειδή αισθάνεται πως τα ελληνικά στοιχεία του τραγουδιού διατηρούνται με τον καλύτερο τρόπο όταν βρίσκονται στη φυσική τους κατάσταση.Αν και είναι ευρέως γνωστό το γεγονός ότι το διαδίκτυο έχει εισχωρήσει βαθιά στην δισκογραφική βιομηχανία σε όλο τον κόσμο, ο Νίκος έχει εναντιωθεί επιτυχημένα σ' αυτές τις αρνητικές συνέπειες και βρίσκεται στο επίκεντρο της αγοράς. Ένας καλλιτέχνης που δουλεύει σκληρά, ευφάνταστος και ικανοποιητικός, ο Νίκος Οικονομόπουλος μοιάζει με όαση στο ελληνικό λαικό τραγούδι. Εκτος από την συνεχώς αυξανόμενη δημοτικότητα του, γίνεται και σημαντική επιρροή στην καλλιτεχνική κληρονομιά της Ελλάδας.

Και τώρα ας επιστρέψουμε στην πραγματική ερώτηση: Ποιός είναι ο Νίκος Οικονομόπουλος σ' αυτή την ιστορία που μοιάζει με παραμύθι? Είναι ο Νίκος Οικονομόπουλος ένας " πρωτάρης " παρασυρόμενος από την τύχη του, ή ειναι ο Χρυσός Πρίγκιπας του ελληνικού τραγουδιού, που στην πραγματικότητα κουβαλάει ο ίδιος την ίδια του την τύχη?


Κατα την άποψή μου δεν θα πρέπει να έχουμε πλεον καμία αμφιβολία: αυτό που κάνει ο Νίκος για την ελληνική μουσική, το μέγεθος του ταλέντου του και τα προσωπικά του στοιχεία που χρησιμεύουν ως ένα εξαιρετικό υπόδειγμα για τη νεότερη γενιά - όλα αυτα μαζί προμηνύουν οτι η εμφάνιση αυτού του τραγουδιστή στην ελληνική μουσική θα κάνει πολύ καλό στην κουλτούρα της πατρίδας του αλλα και στο τραγούδι γενικότερα.

Nikos Economopoulos: A Gift For All Of You

The CD by Nikos Economopoulos "Doro Gia Sena" has entered its second round of sales. The three-time platinum album is currently presented with a colorful and informative booklet. This deluxe and beautifully-packaged edition can be found modestly priced at stores throughout Greece. This album, allied with a well-organized advertising campaign, has been a huge success - topping triple platinum within five months of its initial release.

Let us look inside the booklet and see what is hidden behind its cover with Nikos' radiant smile.

The first thing that impresses is the beautiful photos by Iakovos Kalaitzakis, Joanna Tzetzoumi and Papadakis Press, although the eclectic selection may surprise. We can see here some alternate images of Nikos the Prince, the Philosopher and the musician Vagabond, but things become clearer as we read the brochure.


Page one is devoted to Nikos Economopoulos who has written an open letter to his fans. In it he reveals: "being only 6 years old, I decided that what I want to serve forever is the song". Despite referring to his earliest ambition in life as "an oxymoron", Nikos’ childhood dream ultimately came to fruition through a long, yet determined journey. However, he does not rest on his laurels and continues to persevere with great fervor, strengthened by the love and support of his beloved fans and has vowed to give them even more of himself in the future.

After this introduction we are taken through Nikos’ biography, described by Mary Augerinopoulou.

Written in the epic style interspersed with quotes from Nikos, the gripping storyline captivates the reader. We glimpse at pictures of the singer’s childhood, which he spent in his home town Kato Achaia as Nikos reminisces: "I remember my grandfather waiting for me under the lemon tree, I am coming to the terrace and he gives me a sign, asking me to go down to their house. There, beside him, I grew up. And he was the one who first heard me singing my own improvised songs.”
We read about his youthful years, about how he had to work hard helping his family with their fishing business, thus fortifying him with life’s realities and ensuring he did not become a “spoilt child.” We are then given an account of the various lucky “accidents” and events that punctuated and charted Niko’s future career.

We follow him on his journey as a singer, which started at the age of 17 and which involved considerable travel for performances in Peloponnesus, as well as in the North of Greece and Thrace, where he cemented the best friendships of his life: "My friends had been telling me to take try other approaches, to send a demo to a label, but I didn’t do that. I wanted things to come by themselves, in their own time, and this is how it happened.”


We learn about his victory at the talent contest Dream Show- 2 and about the subsequent fortunate connection with Thanasis Papageorgeou, who in turn became Nikos’ producer and investor- and who funded the enclosed booklet for this CD.



We are impressed by the names of several prominent artists of the Greek laiko song with whom the young singer collaborated and became close to: "Giannis Parios is for me the greatest living singer and it was a big joy and honour for me to work with him and to be his friend. Also I am happy with my collaboration with Stamatis Gonidis, as well as with other artists I have found on stage. From all of them I’ve gained something."


We understand from this epic, that Nikos attributes his success to his work ethic and his determination: "Honestly, I don’t believe in luck. I've always walked and I walked towards the goals in my life. I believe in a strong will and hard work.
“When you want something that much and you love it, it will happen, no matter how long it takes. You will work hard, but if you're determined, you will win the bet."


And above all - this is always seems the most interesting – we discover something about Nikos’ personal life: "Solitude is of my own choice. I want my time so I can reinvent myself. Every evening I review the day as I don’t want my day to be wasted. It's a shame to squander your time. And if I spend some days without doing anything it is because I really need to rest. Besides I have great need of my conversation with God. It may sound strange, but I talk with Him when I really want something and, in His own way, He always gives me an answer.”

Nikos Economopoulos’ story has elements that remind us of a classic fairy tale: the archetypal story is one of a hardworking “Cinderella” who fortuitously finds good fortune and attains a new, happy life. With each new novice artist that emerges this “fairy tale” is often re-hashed to fit the events. It appears that what we read in this CD booklet is connected to this familiar tale, but in a slightly different way.

I propose to try to interpret what role Nikos’ commitment to his destiny has driven his success to date, or whether luck has played a greater role.

Nikos himself claims that even at the tender age of 6, his dream to become a singer was not simply a pure “child’s whim” but rather a deeply held conviction. One should not be surprised by this: when it comes to great talent, it is much more surprising if this gift is woken up later and begins emerging sometime in the teens. In most cases, all the great musicians are already aware of the burden they will carry from childhood. This divine spark begins to burn from inside, almost from birth, and a gifted man is haunted by it. This spark requires lighting the fire, so, this paradox is yet another proof of the exceptional musical talent of Nikos Economopoulos.

Now, a few words about football. It is no secret that many great singers were seriously engaged in this sport. The famous Three Tenors, not only sang in stadiums, but they themselves were excellent football players. Luciano Pavarotti was, like Nikos, a big, but dashed hope for his hometown football team. But nothing passes without trace. Football cultivated in all of these singers some priceless qualities like courage, endurance and fortitude, and, as we will see later, each of these qualities was a crucial one for the future Nikos Economopoulos career.

Nikos learned discipline from his teens onwards when he had to work from sunrise to sundown and this regimen was to serve him well. Indeed, as a result of such habits to work, Nikos is able to withstand hours of load: because of this ability to be permanently in top form he, like a magnet, constantly attracted large crowds of people to the venue “FIX” in Athens where he worked during 5 months of the winter 2010-11 season, during the hardest time of the economic crisis in Greece.

Economopoulos' appearance on the 2006 Dream Show-2 proved to be both an artistic breakthrough but also something of a personal challenge. Nikos' gentle and soft-spoken manner, coupled with his modest and reserved nature, proved at odds with the reality TV aspects of the Dream Show. However, while intrusions proved to be personally distasteful to Nikos, he nevertheless pressed on with his customary grit for the reason why he was there in the first place - to make his mark and provide his own highly individualistic stamp on the Greek laiko song.


Regarding the victory in this singing competition we also can find some details, omitted in many topics about this significant event in Nikos’ biography. Amazing voice and attractive, unusual looks were, of course, the most obvious factors there.
But no less important is another quality: it is his ability to perform in front of people and jury without losses. I don’t want to repeat myself by mentioning again Nikos’ bravery and his strong character. One does not need to be an expert to conclude, after watching and listening to his live performances on the Dream Show-2, that this is the work of an experienced professional. The night dream that Nikos had, before applying to perform on the show, came to him not by accident. At that moment, subconsciously, Nikos Economopoulos felt that, due to many years of performing on stage, he had reached the level that would guarantee him victory. One’s voice and even character are not enough alone to provide this guarantee, but there also needs to be a high level of professionalism. People from the venues where Nikos was singing before the competition, can confirm – he was already an excellent performer and was adored by the audiences. He strategically used the right time and entered at the right place. He came from the provinces to Athens and he conquered Athens!

The victory in this competition brought to Nikos Economopoulos well deserved recognition, a decent amount of money, a record label contract and the patronage of Thanasis Papageorgeou. Not bad, you might say, but let us look at what Nikos has brought to the Greek music scene.

Nikos' entry onto the Greek musical horizon arrived at just the right juncture in his native land's history by bringing in new blood to a time-honored genre in addition to helping the troubled populace to forget its problems for a while and to give them some optimism during most uncertain times. Economopoulos opted to mix the old with the new -- the tradition of the Greek laiko song would be respected at all times but infused with a vitality stemming from Nikos' unique personality and charismatic performance style. To this end, he coined an upbeat and up-tempo axiom, "The song is the best antidote in the time of crisis".

Nikos does not believe in pandering to fickle trends by imitating other singers or by introducing the English language into his songs as he feels that the Hellenistic qualities of song are best preserved in their natural state. Though it's a well known fact that the Internet has cut deeply into the recording industry worldwide, Nikos has been successful in bucking those negative ramifications and taking centre stage in marketability.




A hard-working, yet highly imaginative and satisfying artist, Nikos Economopoulos serves as positive beacon in the life of the Greek laiko song. In addition to his ever-widening popularity, he is becoming a major influence in the artistic legacy of Greece.

And now let's go back to the original question: who is Nikos Economopoulos in this fairy tale-like story? Is he a "fortunate newcomer"” overjoyed by his luck or the Golden Prince of Greek Song, who is actually the carrier of that very same luck?


In my opinion we should no longer have any doubt: what Nikos is doing and continues to do for Greek music, the scale of his talent and personal qualities that serve as an excellent role model for younger generation - all these together suggest that the emergence of this singer on the Greek music scene has been extremely good fortune both for the culture of his native country and for the art of singing in general.

New show at "THEA": Nikos Economopoulos, Paola and Nino!

Nikos Economopoulos and Nino don’t think to split up. After collaboration durng the winter in “Fix”, both artists cooperate again, now they go to the sea-side taking Paola onboard ("Thea” is situated near the sea)

So, the new team was in the studio to be photographed, and the poster should be ready soon. Paola, Economopoulos and Nino will appear in the night club “THEA” from the evening of Easter and hope to spend a nice and fun summer, as Nikos stated to the Star’s camera.. Nino even said about Paula, "it is the best Greek performer" while Paula said it feels great to work with two singers.



So, this trio is going to enrich our summer evenings and give us an unforgettable evening of entertainment.

Ο Νίνο μάλιστα είπε για την Πάολα ότι "είναι η καλύτερη Ελληνίδα performer" ενώ η Πάολα δήλωσε ότι νιώθει υπέροχα που συνεργάζεται με τους δύο τραγουδιστές.

Nikos expressed his concerns regarding 'laika' song situation

At 13th of April, on Wednesday, Nikos Economopoulos gave his interview to the Cosmoradio 95.1 broadcaster Tasos Rizopoulos


Nikos was speaking in his best sincere way.




As usual, the most popular Greek singer answered with joke to the private life question by saying that if some girls want to know him in person, they may come and meet him. (Tasos straightaway invited all the girls to come to the bar Mast, this popular place in Thessaloniki where meeting was organized, to come to know Nikos better.)


But when the topic changed a direction and Tasos asked him some questions regarding the situation with the Greek song, Nikos became serious and expressed his opinion on this subject.

Nikos Economopoulos believes that there are many talented authors and singers working in the contemporary Greek song, but there is a lot of a mediocrity as well there and that “radio made its contribution to this mistaken policy”.

Nikos sees the problem, that good “laika “singers with the songs, written by talented authors can not approach the radio, they don’t have air play.



Tasos wanted Nikos to clarify, which songs and singers are not on the radio. Nikos answered, that “The medium from which you can listen and learn some songs, is the radio. Insofar as the radio does not play their music, I can’t know it either”.

On the question of the radio broadcaster, why does Nikos have complains being

a popular “laika” singer and having his songs permanently on air,

Nikos answered, that he speaks not for himself: “I did not say that I have complains. I speak generally about the “laika’ song, I say, that instead of going ahead, it goes one and two, and five steps back.”





Nikos said to Tasos as a the broadcaster of Cosmoradio 95.1 that he wishes him more often to show “laika” songs , that his radio is able to do so and they can do so!





Regarding his own plans for his life, Nikos said, that he would like to have a real, good family, that he loves children and he is going to have a family and a wife for ever. That he wants to work and to make something valuable in what he is doing.
